Extract & Batch-Translate Entire YouTube Channels into Clean CSV & TXT
Most web-based transcript grabbers only work one video at a time. Shirube YouTube Transcript Tool (v1.1.1) indexes a full channel’s video catalog via yt-dlp, extracts manual or auto-generated subtitles, batch-translates them into your target language, and saves everything locally to an incremental SQLite cache, Excel-ready UTF-8 BOM CSVs, and timestamped .txt files.

Designed around real-world constraints when archiving or analyzing hundreds of YouTube videos on Windows.
Translate Entire Foreign Channels at Scale
Extract Japanese, Spanish, German, or Korean channels and batch-translate every video into English (or vice versa) during extraction—or run --mode translate_existing on an already downloaded SQLite database. Outputs side-by-side original and translated columns in transcripts.csv plus individual {video_id}.{lang}.txt files.
Pause Anytime & Sync Only New Uploads
Every video’s status (pending, success, no_transcript, error) is committed immediately to channel_cache.db. If you stop a 1,000-video job halfway through, clicking Extract All / Resume continues from video #501 without re-fetching completed videos.
UTF-8 BOM CSV + Timestamped TXT Files
Long podcast or lecture videos often exceed Microsoft Excel’s 32,767-character single-cell limit. The tool simultaneously writes timestamped transcripts/{video_id}.txt files and lets you switch CSV export between Full Text, TXT Path Only, or Both.
What This Tool Can Do
- ✓ Index all public videos on a YouTube channel (
@handle,/channel/UC...,/videos, or playlist URLs) without a YouTube Data API v3 key. - ✓ Extract creator-uploaded manual subtitles (
manual) and YouTube auto-generated captions (generated) according to your language priority. - ✓ Batch-translate transcripts into English (
en), Japanese (ja), Spanish (es), French (fr), German (de), Portuguese (pt), Korean (ko), or Simplified Chinese (zh-Hans). - ✓ Automatically pause after two consecutive HTTP 429 rate-limit responses so your IP is not hammered, preserving all completed data in SQLite and CSV.
Honest Limitations & Rate-Limit Reality
- • Requires Existing Captions (Not an Audio Whisper Transcriber): If a video has no manual subtitles and YouTube has not generated auto-captions (e.g., silent footage or disabled captions), the video is recorded as
no_transcript. It does not download audio or run Whisper ASR. - • Per-IP Rate Limits Still Apply: Running locally avoids shared cloud-server IP bans, but YouTube still enforces per-IP rate limits (HTTP 429) when hundreds of transcripts are requested rapidly. Use the default
2.0s–5.0sinterval and see our Troubleshooting Guide. - • Private / Deleted Videos: Private, deleted, or DRM-restricted videos cannot be extracted (
VideoUnavailable).
